Kitchen Prep Volunteers
REQUIREMENTS FOR VOLUNTEERING
Resource Navigators greet visitors to Acorn Cafe and introduce 86 Hunger programs, Wednesday through Sunday from 10-1 or 1-5. This position involves assessing patron's ability to follow our Code of Conduct, guiding patrons through accessing programs at Acorn Cafe and referring guests to offsite resources as needed using a Resource Guide.
Kitchen Prep volunteers help prepare high quality plant-based meals using ingredients donated from local farms and producers, following direction from a chef at Acorn Cafe.
Experience in a restaurant kitchen is required for this position. Shifts are currently scheduled for Tuesdays with additional shifts on a flexible schedule.
Free Market Hosts
Volunteers host our weekly Free Market held on the Acorn Community Cafe patio on Tuesdays from 12pm-5pm. This position involves setting up the market table, greeting and assisting guests, bagging free groceries, and recording incoming and outgoing donations.
Committees and Extra Help
Volunteers who are active in one of our other volunteer positions may join a committee to work on Fundraising, Event Planning, Food Rescue, or the 86 Hunger Newsletter. If you have other skills that might benefit our organization, please let us know!
Volunteers must be 18 or older with a valid photo ID. A completed background check, proof of COVID vaccination, valid Oregon Food Handler's Card and volunteer training are required for all positions.
Our capacity for training is limited, so we ask for a weekly or biweekly commitment from trained volunteers for a minimum duration of three months.
